Evaluation!
I presented a powerpoint presentation on the use of sound within a specific episode of Doctor Who, A good man goes to war - 2011. First of all the presentation could have been far better if I had remembered that there was a presentation due on the date... Therefore the presentation was a rushed effort and based upon my actual understanding of how sound affects media I definitely lost out on this. However the information that i did present showed a Sound understanding (wreyyy) of the subject in hand. I chose this scene in particular as the uses of both diegetic and non-diegetic sound are particularly well used to convey emotion. More specifically feelings of triumph and success. The way that the soundtrack works with the action on screen gives the scene depth. Swag.

Glossary!

Big old list of words and their definitions that will somehow aid me in the future. Buzzing.

1 - Diegetic: Sound that belongs within the scene. E.g. Bird sound.

2 - Non-diegetic: Sound that does not belong within the scene. E.g. Soundtracks

3 - Ambient: Background noise that creates a realism within a scene

4 - SFX: Special effects

5 - Mood: Induces or suggests a certain state of mind

6 - Tone: The sound of the music???

7 - Genre: A category of artistic composition, as in music or literature, characterized by similarities in form, style, or subject matter

8 - Theme Music: Theme music is a piece that is often written specifically for a radio program, television program, video game or movie, and usually played during the title sequence and/or end credits

9 - Voiceover: Voice-over (also known as off-camera or off-stage commentary) is a production technique where a voice which is not part of the narrative (non-diegetic) is used in a radio, television, film, theatre, or other presentation

10 - Musical Score: can be the most memorable part of a film. This task falls to the composer, who will create an original score – or in some cases a music editor, when the score is made up of commercial recordings. The composer might be involved from the beginning or may step in once the cut is locked

11 - Synchronous Sound: Sync sound (synchronized sound recording) refers to sound recorded at the time of the filming of movies, and has been widely used in U.S. movies since the birth of sound movies

12 - Asynchronous Sound: Sound which is indigenous to the action but not precisely synchronized with the action

13 - Contrapuntal: A piece of music with two or more independent melodic lines

14 - Silence: Complete absence of sound

15 - Selective Sound: The removal of some sounds and the retention of others to make significant sounds more recognisable, or for dramatic effect: to create atmosphere, meaning and emotional nuance

16 - Sound Bridges: at the beginning of a scene, the sound from the previous scene carries over briefly before the sound from the new scene begins. Or conversly, at the end of a scene, the sound from the next scene is heard, leading into that scene

Boom.
